As part of the organisational changes in April 2013 Sue moved to the new body Public Health England as Director of Dental Public Health, together with the network of consultants in dental public health in England. Sue retired from that position in 2014. Immediately before that she was Deputy Chief Dental Officer at Department of Health England from January 2009. Within her wide portfolio, including dental public health, she was heavily involved in the development and implementation of pilots to test a care pathway and quality and outcomes approach as a basis for reform of the dental contract in England. Prior to moving to DH she worked across Bedfordshire, Luton and Hertfordshire PCTs. where she had a long standing interest in the primary/secondary care interface and ensuring equity of service provision alongside reducing inequalities. She led the development and implementation of the Bedfordshire Orthodontic Personal Dental Services Pilot. 

Sue chaired the joint DH/BASCD working group which developed “Delivering better oral health” and its second and third editions. She is a Past President of the British Association for the Study of Community Dentistry (2006/2007) and British Society for Disability and Oral Health (1992).

She has worked on numerous national committees and working groups, including being an invited member of the Board of Faculty of Dental Surgery (RCS England).

Many moons ago Sue worked in Community Dental Services in Bedfordshire, where her clinical interests were predominantly around special needs, and became District Dental Officer for Bedfordshire.
