An Employer of Choice
Community Dental Services is an employee owned social enterprise and Community Interest Company formed in 2011 delivering clinical dental and Oral Health Promotion services throughout Bedfordshire, Luton, Suffolk, Thetford, Oxfordshire, Leicestershire and Essex.
We combine a public service ethos with the innovation and dynamism of a business and emerged with a vision and a belief that being a competitive, well-run and profitable business is the best way of achieving social aims.
CDS has successfully transitioned from being part of the NHS to operate as a vibrant and independent company providing services to the same high quality standards and with the same values and public service ethos.
We provide a supportive and stimulating environment which encourages innovation and inspires our employees to realise their full potential and we place a high priority on training our workforce across all the many disciplines.
‘As the employer of choice’, we strive to create an organisation where everyone feels valued and stimulated and where there is encouragement and opportunity to develop to your full personal potential.
We are an ‘equal opportunities’ employer and our values as an organisation support a workforce from a wide range of cultural backgrounds and experience. We recruit permanent and fixed term posts and maintain a Bank team to support the different areas of the service.
Our workforce spans Bedfordshire, Oxfordshire, Leicestershire, Suffolk, Thetford, Chelmsford and Essex. The clinical teams; dentists, dental specialists, nurses and receptionists all work together in their health settings across these counties, together with our oral health promotion teams.
The administrative corporate team based at our Bedfordshire head office includes the finance, IT and HR and Communications functions, together with an executive team headed by our Chief Executive. This senior team oversee the operations and corporate functions across the organisation.
Our Board of Directors number 15 individuals and includes 8 employee elected directors. These employee elected members come from a cross section of dentists, nurses and administration teams and are elected by all CDS employees.
Their operational ‘know-how’ and grounded perspective is highly valued by the non-elected directors (NEDS) who sit on the Board. Similarly, the employee elected directors benefit greatly from the experience the NEDS bring from their own particular field of expertise.
Our permanent employees, with more than one year’s service, all own a share in the company and new people joining us are able to join the CDS pension scheme from ‘The Pensions Trust’ which offers a flexible retirement plan.
