Additional Needs

We know that some patients can have difficulties in accessing dental care. We’re here to give high quality treatment and a caring, understanding approach to children and adults with additional needs.

We give routine check-ups and dental treatment to adults with additional needs, disabilities and learning difficulties in Bedfordshire and Luton.

What services do you offer?

As well as our clinic-based services, we run mobile clinics at day centres for adults with learning disabilities, specialist nursing homes, secure mental health units and homeless centres.

We also have a bariatric chair at our Dental Care Centre in Bedford which enables plus size people to visit the dentist who may have previously found a standard dental chair uncomfortable.  Patients who would prefer to use the bariatric chair (located at the Dental Care Centre in Bedford) can contact us to arrange an appointment.

Do you have wheelchair access?

We have ground floor surgeries with easy access for wheelchairs. We also have a specialist wheelchair recliner at our clinics at the Dental Care Centre, Bedford and Liverpool Road Luton. Our Houghton Regis Clinic has a hoist in each surgery to assist patients with wheelchairs and the fully equipped mobile surgery has full wheelchair access and hoist.

We welcome children at all our clinics in Bedfordshire for routine dental care. Our dental teams have many years’ experience in providing care for nervous children and teenagers.

What services do you offer?

We provide dental care with:

  • Behaviour management techniques
  • Inhalation sedation
  • Intravenous sedation
  • General anaesthesia – this is available at operating theatres in the Luton and Dunstable Hospital, Bedford Hospital and West Suffolk Hospital with a full anaesthetic team

Do you accept referrals?

We accept referrals from dentists (General Dental Practitioners) and other healthcare professionals for children most in need within Bedfordshire, Suffolk and Thetford.

Do you visit special schools?

We provide oral health screenings to children in special schools across Bedfordshire and Luton; routine examinations and treatments are also carried out on a regular basis.

Oral health screenings, routine check-ups and courses of treatment are carried out at special schools in Bedfordshire and Luton from our Dental Mobile Service.

We provide a caring, understanding environment for patients with learning disabilities.

We build long-term relationships with our patients and the teams at local care homes. We pride ourselves on our good communication with hospital services, social services, specialist learning disability services and special schools.
